Project “Souvenir from Charnel house” is a multilayered document. 2013
In this project I confronted my strongest fears – fear of caves, darkness and death. All these issues are linked in one place – at Charnel house in which I got given task to do a souvenir.
In essence, photography as a medium stands in a stark contrast to death. While death is singular, final, and non-repeatable, photography is generally reproducible. Each situation can be captured by multiple photos and each of these can be reproduced relatively without limits. To mimic the finality of death, I’ve made series of unique photographs with an analogue camera in the Charnel House, with the intent to sell them as a souvenir along with their negatives – essentially foregoing my ability to reproduce them.
